Riverside, Ca- At approximately
8:30 AM on November 23, 2003, Riverside police officers detained a 23 year-old
male subject for being a danger to himself or others. He was transported by
ambulance to Riverside Community Hospital where he was accepted for medical
treatment and subsequent transfer to a County Mental Health facility.
Approximately nine minutes later, the subject escaped from the hospital and ran
north on Market Street. He stood on the edge of the top floor of the parking
garage at Ninth and Market Streets threatening to jump.
Members of the Emergency Negotiations Team responded and attempted to talk the
subject down for approximately two and one-half hours. At 12:56 PM the subject
jumped off the structure and sustained massive injuries when he struck the
sidewalk below.
The subject’s name is being withheld at this time.
