Riverside, Ca- On Monday, March 31, 2003 at
approximately 4:48 am, officers from the Riverside Police Department responded
to the 1400 block of Satinwood Ct. reference a “Stolen Vehicle in-progress”
radio call. Witnesses reported the suspect vehicle to be a white Chevy S-10
extended cab truck. A Riverside Police Officer observed the truck leaving the
area and initiated a traffic stop. As the officer exited his patrol car and
walked towards the truck, the truck sped away.
Officers pursued the truck through the cities of Riverside, San Bernardino and
Highland. While they traveled on the northbound 215 freeway, they reached speeds
in excess of 100 m.p.h. After approximately 22 minutes, officers from the
California Highway Patrol took over the pursuit. The suspects eventually crashed
their truck and four occupants were taken into custody and turned over to the
Riverside Police Department.
Further investigation revealed that three of the suspects in the vehicle were
involved in several other vehicle burglaries in the downtown area. Information
regarding the suspects is as follows.
Driver – White Male Juvenile from San Bernardino, booked into Juvenile Hall for Burglary and Felony Evading.
Passenger – White Male Juvenile from San Bernardino, booked into Juvenile Hall for Burglary and Possession of Narcotics.
Passenger – White Female Juvenile from San Bernardino, released to her parents with no charges pending at this time.
Passenger – White Male Adult, Derreck Lawrence Halterman, 19 years old from San Bernardino, booked into the Robert Presley Detention Center for Parole Violation, Burglary and Possession of Narcotics.
