Riverside, Ca- On June 10, 2003,
at 1554 hours, officers of the Riverside Police Department responded to a major
injury traffic collision between a vehicle and a small child in the parking lot
of 3450 Dwight Ave. According to witnesses, the 15-month-old boy had wandered
away from his family and followed his aunt into the north driveway area where
she was moving a 1996 Mercury Mystique. The child was struck by the left rear of
the vehicle.
The boy received major injuries and was transported to Riverside Community
Hospital for emergency treatment. The condition of the child was listed as
“critical” by emergency room staff.
The driver of the Mercury, a 25-year-old female relative of the victim, was
taken to the Riverside police department for follow up investigation and
released.
Members of the Department’s Major Accident Investigation Team (M.A.I.T.)
responded.
