Riverside, Ca- At approximately 8:35am on
01-11-03, officers responded to the intersection of Tyler and Hedrick regarding
an RTA bus collision involving another vehicle. A few minutes prior to the call,
an officer noticed a small grayish blue truck traveling on Wells Avenue without
license plates, but lost sight of it. Just as it was being dispatched, the
officer located the collision at Tyler and Hedrick.
Officers from the Major Accident Investigation Team responded to the scene to
conduct the investigation. The preliminary investigation reveals that the RTA
bus was traveling south on Tyler with five passengers on board. The single
occupant grayish blue truck was traveling west on Hedrick at a high rate of
speed and did not stop for the stop sign. The truck entered the intersection in
front of the bus, where the collision occurred. The vehicles continued south on
Tyler and came to rest after impacting a residence in the 5000 block of Tyler.
The driver of the truck was pronounced dead at the scene. The Riverside County
Coroners Office has not yet identified him. The truck was reported stolen in the
City of Corona on 01-04-03.
Four passengers in the bus were transported by ambulance to Riverside Community
Hospital with minor injuries.
Inside the victim residence, an adult male was sleeping in the front bedroom. He
was hit with building debris from the impact. He received minor injuries and was
transported to Parkview Hospital. An infant was sleeping in the same room, but
just minutes prior to impact, its mother took it into another part of the home.
The crib was next to the area damaged by the bus.
