Riverside, Ca- At approximately 3:50 pm,
officers from the Riverside Police Department responded to the intersection of
Tyler St. and Hedrick Ave. regarding an RTA bus colliding with a passenger
vehicle. Officers from the Major Accident Investigation Team (M.A.I.T.) were
summoned to the scene to conduct the investigation.
A preliminary investigation based on witness statements indicate that a
passenger vehicle was traveling westbound on Hedrick Ave. towards Tyler St. at a
speed estimated to be 30-35 miles per hour. The vehicle then failed to stop for
a posted Stop Sign at the intersection. The vehicle entered the intersection in
front of an RTA bus that was traveling southbound on Tyler St. The RTA bus
collided with the vehicle in the intersection and both vehicles came to rest in
the front yard of a residence in the 5000 block of Tyler St.
A total of four occupants were in the passenger vehicle. Three of the occupants
were pronounced deceased at the scene by members of the Riverside Fire
Department. The fourth occupant was found conscious in the left rear seat of the
vehicle. Emergency personnel removed the victim from the vehicle and transported
him to Riverside Community Hospital where he is currently listed in Critical
Condition.
The driver of the RTA bus was transported to a local hospital for minor
injuries. One passenger on the bus was treated and released at the scene by
emergency personnel.
