Riverside, Ca- On March 19, 2003 a female Riverside Community College student was attacked by two men near the Technology Building at approximately 09:30 a.m.. One of the men threatened the victim with a handgun, while the second suspect sexually assaulted the 18-year-old victim.
Investigators from the Riverside Police Department and the Riverside Community College Police Department developed information leading to the identification and arrest of the man suspected to be the gunman in the attack. The gunman was identified as Charles Leonard Hale Jr., 19-years-old of Riverside.
Investigators placed Mr. Hale under arrest near his residence on 12th Street during the morning hours of April 17, 2003. Mr. Hale was booked at the Robert Presley Detention Center later that afternoon for 261(a)(2) PC Forcible Rape and 209 PC Kidnapping with the intent to commit rape.
The second suspect responsible for sexually assaulting the victim is still at large. He is described as a Black Male adult, late teens to early 20s, black short hair, 5’09 tall, 170 pounds with a muscular build. He was last seen wearing a light blue shirt with the word “volcom” printed across the front, khaki colored cargo pants and Oakley type sunglasses.
