Riverside, Ca- On June 6, 2002, at approximately 1:40 AM, officers from the Riverside Police Department responded to Riverside County Regional Medical Center in Moreno Valley, reference two stabbing victims. Through interviews it was learned that the victims had been attacked and stabbed by several subjects in the parking lot of a bar in the 3500 block of University Avenue.
One of the victims, a forty nine (49) year old male, was treated and released. The second victim, a forty (40) year old male, was admitted and subsequently died from his injuries.
Detectives with the Homicide Investigations Unit responded to the scene and their investigation is on going. The name of the victim is not being released pending notification of family.
This crime is being investigated as a hate crime. The Riverside Police Department is dedicated to protecting the rights guaranteed for all individuals, irrespective of their race, religion, ethnic/national origin, sexual orientation, gender or disability. Hate Crimes are different than other crimes. Most crime victims, and those close to them, must have confidence that law enforcement is doing everything possible to apprehend the perpetrator. The impact of hate crimes not only affects the immediate victim but everyone who shares the identity that motivated the particular crime.
