Riverside, Ca- At approximately 4:05pm on
7-30-02, the Riverside Police Department was notified of a collision on Buchanan
at the railroad tracks just south of Magnolia.
Officers responded to the scene and discovered the collision involved a
train and an automobile.
The preliminary investigation
indicates the automobile was at a complete stop northbound Buchanan at the
railroad tracks due to the flashing railroad lights and a downed railroad arm.
For reasons unknown, the automobile started forward, broke the wooden
railroad arm and was subsequently struck by a westbound BNSF train.
The driver and sole occupant of the vehicle was identified as Mary Alice
DelGadillo, 33 yrs, from Riverside. Mary
DelGadillo was taken to Riverside Community Hospital where she later died from
her injuries.
Officers from the Major Accident Investigation Team responded to the scene to conduct further investigation into the collision.
