Barricaded Suspect Arrested

Riverside, Ca-  On Thursday, July 25, 2002 at approximately 2:08pm, the Riverside Police Department was notified that an adult male was inside of an apartment located at 11383 Magnolia Ave., The Magnolia Apartments.  The adult male was identified as David Brackett, a 37 year old white male with an outstanding felony warrant from the Bonner County Sheriff’s Office in Idaho.  The original charge listed on the warrant was for “Lewd Conduct With A Minor Under The Age Of 16”.

Riverside Police Officers responded to the apartment to make contact with Mr. Brackett. When the officers contacted Mr. Brackett, he displayed a handgun and pointed it to his own head.  Mr. Brackett then walked into a bathroom with the gun still pointed at his own head and barricaded himself inside.  Riverside Police Officers walked back out of the apartment and established a perimeter.  Officers from the Special Weapons And Tactics team (S.W.A.T.) responded to the scene as well as Hostage Negotiators.  After approximately 4 ½ hours, Mr. Brackett gave himself up and was taken into custody without incident.

During this incident, no hostages were taken and no injuries were reported from the suspect or any of the officers on scene.

David Brackett was transported to the Riverside County Regional Medical Center Inpatient Treatment Facility for a Mental Health Evaluation.  Upon completion of the evaluation, Mr. Brackett will be booked into the Riverside County Jail on the outstanding warrant.
