Riverside, Ca- Friday, May 18, 2001 at approximately 8 P.M. officers were flagged down by a citizen who said that the Del Taco at Brockton and 14th street was being robbed. Officers immediately responded but missed the robbery by minutes. While at the Del Taco, officers learned that two suspects robbed the store and a customer in the parking lot. One suspect had robbed the register and clerk in the front of the restaurant at gun point, while the other robbed the manager and safe in the back. The suspect in the back also pistol whipped the manager, who was taken to the hospital and later released without serious injury. One of the suspects approached a female victim in the parking lot and robbed her of cash in the parking lot. This suspect than took the victimís vehicle ( Purple Grand Am) at gun point and drove out of the lot W/B 14th. A few minutes later, officers spotted the victimís vehicle at Columbia and Main, at which time a pursuit was initiated. The pursuit continued into Rialto, where the officers lost the car. Assisting Rialto PD units located the abandoned car at a near-by truck stop at Valley and Riverside. The suspect was located soon afterwards on a bus bench in the same area. The victims identified this suspect and he was transported back to Riverside where he was booked for Car Jacking, Robbery and Felony Failure to yield. The second suspect - described as a B/M - was not believed to be with the captured suspect and may of escaped in a separate vehicle. He has not been identified to date.
