Narrative: D-1 was driving W/B Blaine St. from Iowa Ave. in a 1978 Chevy Monte Carlo. D-2 was exiting the Blaine St. off-ramp for S/B SR-215 in a 2001 Honda Accord. D-1 ran the red light at a high rate of speed and collided with D-2. D-1's vehicle momentarily caught on fire, however, the fire was extinguished by officers who were at the scene.
Prior to the collision, D-1 was attempting to evade officers in his vehicle. Officers had attempted to stop D-1 in the area of East La Cadena and Spring Garden. D-12 failed to yield to the officers and a pursuit ensued. D-1 attempted to elude officers in and around the area of Marlborough St., Spring Garden St., and other small streets in the area.
During the pursuit a passenger in D-1's vehicle got out and ran into a residential area. The pursuit appeared to end at the corner of Blaine St. and Iowa Ave. after D-1 stopped his vehicle in a parking lot. However, as officers initiated a high risk traffic stop, D-1 drove out of the parking lot at a very high rate of speed on to W/B Blaine St.
At Blaine St. and the S/B SR-215 off-ramp, D-1 ran the red light and collided with D-2's vehicle. Both drivers were treated at the scene by personnel of the Riverside Fire Department and AMR Ambulance. Both were transported to the listed hospitals for further medical treatment.
D-1 faces several criminal charges including felony evading arrest and felony driving under the influence. The collision is being investigated by the Riverside Police Department Major Accident Investigation Team (MAIT)
