Narrative: Ms. Harnish (D-1) was traveling E/B Columbia Av. from Main St. in the #1 lane of traffic at approximately 25 MPH. She was driving a 1998 Chevy S-10 truck with a refrigerator, a dining room table and four (4) chairs in the bed.
Mr. Lowe was also in the bed of the truck sitting between the refrigerator and truck bed sidewall. The unsecured refrigerator shifted causing one of the doors to open while the truck was in motion. This caused Mr. Lowe to fall from the moving truck and strike his head on the asphalt.
Mr. Lowe was treated at the scene by members of the Riverside Fire Department and AMR. He was subsequently transported to Riverside Community Hospital where he was pronounced deceased by the emergency room medical staff.
The collision is being investigated by the Riverside Police Department Major Accident Investigation Team (MAIT).
