Riverside, Ca- Chief Russ Leach is pleased to announce the donation of 17 bicycles over this holiday season. Several bicycles will be given to Riverside children at the City Council meeting on Tuesday, December 18, 2001 at 6:30 p.m.
The Riverside Police Department, the Alvord Unified School District and People Reaching Out Program (PRO) will distribute bicycles to disadvantaged children at Arlanza Elementary School and the Eastside Neighborhoods serviced by PRO. A total of seventeen bicycles will be given away. Eleven of these bicycles were unclaimed property for over 60 days in the possession of the Riverside Police Department. The Arlington Wal-Mart Store donated six (6) additional bicycles to the Police Department in the form of frames and parts.
Members of the Riverside Police Department used the bicycle parts obtained from Wal-Mart to refurbish and repair all seventeen (17) bicycles that will be distributed.
Anthony’s Cyclery donated the services for necessary repairs and conduct safety checks of the bicycles. The East Hills Division of the Greater Riverside Chamber of Commerce financed the cost of all necessary repairs and the purchase of bicycle locks for each bicycle. The Riverside Police Department Traffic Education Unit donated all of the bicycle helmets.
