Riverside, Ca- On October 12, 2000 at about 11:00 pm, Riverside Police Officers Brad Smith and Randy Reynolds responded to a "check the welfare" call at the 3900 block of Polk Street. They had information that there was an elderly lady at the residence who had just undergone surgery a few days prior, and was not answering her telephone or door. Neighbors told the officers the lady was diabetic, and they were concerned for her health.
The officers saw an open window, and they entered the residence. They found the victim on her bed, very sick and unresponsive. They immediately called for medical aid which came and transported the victim to the hospital. It is believed the victim may have been in diabetic shock. Medical staff believes the quick actions on the part of the police officers may have saved the her life.
