JOB INFORMATION REQUEST:  Reserve Police Officer


SALARY:      Reserve Police Officer Trainee is a non-compensated volunteer position.
STATUS:       CLOSED


THE POSITION

After training, under direct or general supervision of a regular police officer, performs law enforcement and crime prevention work; controls traffic flow and enforces state and local traffic laws; performs investigative work and related duties in support of Department officers, employees and functions. The Riverside Police Department is dedicated to hiring only those individuals who meet the highest of professional standards with a commitment to serving all members of their community with sensitivity, empathy, and impartiality.

This is a volunteer, non-compensated, at-will position. All appointees will serve according to the discretion of the Chief of Police. Certain professions or occupations may be ineligible if their profession or occupation is deemed to be a conflict of interest with the duties of Reserve Police Officer.

REQUIREMENTS

Minimum of 21 years of age, no maximum. High school graduation or equivalent. POST STANDARD VISION REQUIREMENT: Any visual defect must correct to 20/20 in both eyes. If hard contacts or glasses are worn, defect can be no less than 20/80 in both eyes. If soft contacts have been worn successfully for 3 months, any defect is acceptable if corrected to 20/20. Must have passing scores on color blindness test and depth perception. Weight must be in proportion to height as determined by physician. Applicants are required to pass a medical examination including substance testing. Must posses a valid California Driver's License at the time of employment.  Must be a citizen of the United States or a permanent resident alien who is eligible for and has applied for citizenship. Candidates must be willing to donate a minimum of 24 hours to the department each month.

Completion of a California P.O.S.T. Basic Academy. Those candidates currently enrolled in a California Basic P.O.S.T, Academy will be accepted conditionally pending successful completion. Must indicate on application your graduation date with your class number and name of the academy attended or currently enrolled in, if applicable.  Candidates will be placed on an eligibility list for up to one year. 

EXAMINATION

Applications will be screened and qualified/successful candidates may be invited to compete in an oral examination.

The candidate must qualify in each of the following areas:

        Oral Interview
        Physical Abilities Exam
        Background Investigation
        Polygraph Examination
        Psychological Evaluation
        Medical Examination
        Command Oral
