What is a School Resource Officer?

A police officer or detective assigned to several public schools.

They investigate crimes occurring on campus, interview suspects and witnesses, and file the case with the District Attorney’s Office.

The main objective is to be a liaison between the Alvord and Riverside Unified School Districts. The primary responsibility of the School Resource Officer is to provide a police resource to the assigned public schools.

Anti-gang and anti-drug awareness education is also presented by the School Resource Officers in keeping with the department’s Community Oriented Policing philosophy.

Communications between the students and the police are increased and respect is created. They encourage students in their role of taking responsibility for their decisions. Mutual understanding and partnerships between students and the police are fostered.
