SPEEDING
At one time or another you have all observed cars speeding on your streets. Speeding creates noise, causes difficulties for bicyclists and pedestrians and jeopardizes the safety of our children.

Residential district streets have a speed limit of 25 mph. These streets do not need speed limit signs posted for the 25 mph speed to be in effect and to be enforced by the Riverside Police Department.

There are several effective methods to slow down traffic in your neighborhood. Depending on the nature of the traffic one or more may be useful in reducing speeding. Contact your Public Works Department, and we will work with you to determine the best action for your area to encourage safe driving speeds.

POLICE ENFORCEMENT The Police Department's Traffic Division places officers on patrol to cite speeders.

NEIGHBORHOOD SPEED WATCH Neighborhood members operate radar equipment and make a list of violators license numbers. The Police Department sends notices to the violators.

SPEED DISPLAY BOARD A portable speed display board is put on location by the Police Department. Motorists see their approaching speed displayed, alerting them of excessive speed.

SPEED LIMIT SIGNS Signs are posted at the entrances to residence district streets reminding drivers they are entering a 25 mph area and to reduce their speed.

SPEED HUMPS Humps are constructed at 300 feet to 600 feet intervals to slow down traffic.

TRAFFIC PATTERN MODIFICATION A comprehensive plan for an entire neighborhood, involving residents and the City meeting in public forums to discuss traffic solutions. Several traffic control options including construction of traffic cul-de-sacs, turn channelizers or other traffic restrictive devices may be implemented.
