                  Traffic Facts

It's that time again, the New Year, when changes in the California Vehicle Code become effective. In the spirit of promoting safety for our children, there's a new addition to our Youth Bicycle Helmet Law. Operators (kid in charge) and passengers (kid's friends) under age 18 are required to wear a helmet when riding on a scooter, skateboard or in-line skates.

Any driver overtaking any school bus displaying flashing red lights may be fined $471.

Red Curb that cure-all for so many traffic woes is sometimes misunderstood.  Red curb usually means no stopping, standing or parking.  Oftentimes motorists are under the impression that red curb indicates only no parking and it is OK to stop along red curb to pick- up a passenger or to just sit in the car and wait.  That is not the case, so  please remember that you should not stop at any curb marked red.

Something to keep in mind when traveling along our busy streets, such as Magnolia, La Sierra, Arlington and others is when driving by a School Zone, the speed is  25 mph When Children Are Present.

John F. Kennedy Elementary School, a brand new school, opened-up this January. For the new school, our Public Works Department installed over 40 signs, painted numerous crosswalks and pavement markings, and evaluated several locations for crossing guard placement.   The Police Department will be assigning crossing guards at two locations: Wood Rd. and Schoolhouse Lane; and at Schoolhouse Lane and Barnwood Lane.
