Multiple Modes of Transportation

Multi-modal refers to the use of two or more modes of transportation in a single trip (i.e., bicycling and riding the bus or train). Accommodating bicycles on mass transit allows cyclists to increase the distance they can travel and provides an alternative to riding at night or in poor weather.

Victoria Avenue is considered a multi-modal corridor in the South of the City, with bike lanes, a bike path, and an equestrian path.

60% of the pollution created by auto emissions happens in the first few minutes of operation, before pollution control devices can work effectively.

The multi-modal network connection consists of two key elements:

  • Bicycle parking facilities at transit stops
  • Bicyclists may need bicycle transport and parking facilities for connections with and use of other transportation modes.

Bicycle racks were installed at the Downtown Metrolink Station, and the La Sierra Metrolink Station has bike racks and six bike lockers.

  • Bicycle accommodation on trains and buses
  • RTA provides fixed route, commuter, and dial-a-ride bus service within western Riverside County including the City of Riverside. All buses on fixed routes are equipped with bike racks that hold two bicycles.

Riverside has two existing Metrolink stations: La Sierra Metrolink Station at 10901 Indiana Ave and the Downtown Riverside Metrolink Station at 4066 Vine Street. Metrolink also has space for two bicycles per rail car. Omnitrans is San Bernardino's bus transit provider that runs daily between Riverside and Montclair. Bicycle racks are provided on all Omnitrans rail cars.
