Shopping Cart Retrieval Program

The City of Riverside is concerned about neighborhood blight and public safety issues associated with abandoned shopping carts. As a result, on September 6, 2005, the City Council amended Chapter 9.58 of the Riverside Municipal Code  The amendment requires store operators that provide carts to its customers to either contract with the City for Cart retrieval services or submit to the City of Riverside a prevention plan to prevent cart removal from the business premises.

Shopping Carts are provided by stores for customer use. Often, carts not returned to appropriate locations and end up abandoned in the community.

Report Abandoned Shopping Carts

crossing guardResidents can now use the mobile 311 phone application to report abandoned shopping carts.

The application allows residents to take a photo of the nuisance and send the information to the 311 Call Center for removal. Residents may also request removal of abandoned shopping carts by calling 826-5311.

Shopping Cart Regulations
