In November 2005, the Riverside City Council authorized city staff to begin the annexation process to bring University City into the City of Riverside.
The proposed University City annexation consists of 106 acres. This area is generally south of Central Avenue and east of Sycamore Canyon Boulevard.
A letter of interest was sent to registered voters in the neighborhood in January 2006 to gauge interest and initiate a dialogue between the City and area residents.
Two community meetings were held, on April 12, 2006 and on August 15, 2006, to meet with residents and answer questions.
This item was approved at the City Council meeting on May 1, 2007. The application was submitted to LAFCO in July, 2007. Annexation proceedings for the University City neighborhood have been terminated due to a protest hearing vote in excess of 50 percent.
