Special programs are not part of the Parks &
Recreation regularly-scheduled classes and programs. Some
programs, like the Lawn Bowling Club or the Riverside Live Steamers
are offered by individuals or volunteer organizations and are
not Parks & Recreation programs although they take place in City
Parks.

and curves for practicing all the latest moves! This non-supervised
all-concrete skateboard facility also features a handicapped
observation ramp, a pyramid/grind combo, a “fun box,” double

Lawn Bowling
Bowlers meet on Tuesdays and Fridays at 9 a.m.
and Sundays at 1:30 p.m.
This Riverside tradition has been around since
1926 and is great for all ages. The Riverside Lawn Bowling Club
provides free instruction and bowls for beginners. Come to the
Lawn Bowling Greens at Fairmount Park, 2601 Fairmount Blvd, near
the Market Street (locomotive) entrance.
This unique sport is played with a bowl,
or ball, which is not uniformly shaped. The bowl curves when
rolled because one side is flattened. Concentration is necessary
to develop the skill that sends each bowl on an accurate, curved
path toward the target. For more information, please call the
Riverside Lawn Bowling Club at 780-7273.
Riverside Live Steamers (RLS) - The 100% Steam Only Club
Train rides for the public are on the 2nd and 4th Sundays of the month
This club was formed in 1966 to perpetuate the
enjoyment of steam power in a rapidly “dieselized” world.
Since that beginning, the Riverside Live Steamers (RLS) has operated
passenger hauling trains, all steam powered, twice a month, weather
permitting.
RLS offers free rides for all on the second and
fourth Sunday of each month from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at 1496
Iowa St. RLS usually hauls 600 to 900 passengers per run day.
Visitors are welcome in the steaming area before and after the
run hours. Members are also available between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m.
to answer your questions.
Adopt-A-Street
The Adopt-A-Street Program is co-sponsored by
the City of Riverside, Public Works Department and Keep Riverside
Clean and Beautiful (KRCB). The program offers individuals, groups,
and businesses the opportunity to help support the City’s
efforts to provide cleaner communities by selecting streets to
beautify and maintain. For more information on how you can adopt
a street, please call KRCB at 683-7100.
Santa Ana River Trail
Come and enjoy the river’s open space, wildlife,
and recreational opportunities. From the heights of Mt. San Gorgonio,
past forests and farms, through the counties of San Bernardino,
Riverside, and Orange, flows the Santa Ana River toward the Pacific
Ocean. This continuous trail system links public parks and open
space areas along the river corridor. The region’s population
including horseback riders, hikers, joggers and bicycle enthusiasts
enjoys the trail. The trail is also great for bird watching,
nature walks, and educating youth about the environment and science.
Nature Hikes
Attention teachers, scout leaders, and parents! The
Park Rangers can work with you to customize group hikes on the
footpaths along the Santa Ana River Bottom, at Sycamore Canyon
Park, Fairmount Park, and Mt. Rubidoux. Learn about the plant
and animal life in these unique areas of our City. Reservations
are now being accepted. In addition, school and service organization
presentations are now being reserved at the main Park & Recreation
Department Office. Demonstrations, park Safety, care of parks,
and general park use are the main topics of discussion, along
with plant and animal life in the area.
Adopt-a-Park
Become a sponsor! The Adopt-a-Park program
is designed to assist in the beautification of city parks and
trails. For more details about this program, please call 826-6126,
