Housing & Neighborhoods
:: Mission Grove Neighborhood

NeighborhoodsMission Grove is an eastern gateway into the City of Riverside, composed primarily of newer single-family homes. Mission Grove shares the hilly terrain of all the southeastern Riverside neighborhoods and the landscape is punctuated by several high peaks.This region remained largely undeveloped until the 1960’s, but the large majority of the growth has occurred in the last ten years, making it young compared with the rest of the city, and is a recently incorporated section of town.

The neighborhood borders on Sycamore Canyon Park, which provides the area a source of natural beauty and recreational opportunities. As residential growth continues, the reuse of adjacent March Air Reserve Base represents a unique opportunity for local industry and employment.

Mission Grove is found at the intersection of three large annexations, all done between 1963 and 1985. Two smaller annexations, in 1987 and 1995, gave Mission Grove its current boundaries. Mission Grove, a specific-planned community, is the very definition of a modern suburban neighborhood. Its curving streets and housing stock reflect a more current aesthetic in urban design. The region is almost totally developed for residential use, with a near even mix between low and medium density zoning. This neighborhood is centered around a large commercial center, the Mission Grove shopping center and also features a sizable industrial business park.
