:: Arlington South Neighborhood

NeighborhoodsArlington South has been a part of the City of Riverside since its incorporation. Historic Victoria Avenue forms the southern boundary of this neighborhood and the 91 freeway forms the northern edge. These two very different transit corridors reflect the great diversity of this neighborhood.

This neighborhood has a mix of Riverside’s citrus heritage and modern industrial economy. The southwestern edge of the neighborhood is located within the City’s greenbelt. This section of Arlington South is characterized by Victorian and Craftsman style homes, with large, deep lots and groves of citrus. The north and eastern edges of the neighborhood are developed with several large-scale industrial uses. The largest and most notable of these is Fleetwood Enterprises, currently employing approximately 2,000 people and listed as a Fortune 500 company. The central portion of Arlington South is developed with medium-density tract housing, dating from the 1970’s. These homes are mostly single story and are clustered around short streets and cul-de-sacs. Arlington South differs little in overall character and appearance from Arlington and the only boundary between the two is the 91 Freeway.

Arlington, as a whole, has two of the most active neighborhood associations to be found in the City, the Arlington Community Committee and the Arlington Project Area Committee. The Arlington Redevelopment Area, formerly confined to a single intersection, was recently expanded to encompass more than one thousand acres in the heart of the neighborhood.
