Dosan Ahn Chang Ho, whose monument is in downtown, founded the first permanent Korean-American settlement in Riverside. Councilwoman Traub-Eichhorn was in Riverside with a delegation of five high school exchange students from Erlangen’s Albert Schweitzer Gymnasium. Riverside is exploring a Sister City relationship with this 1,000 year old city. August 24, 2010.

National League of Cities President and Riverside Mayor Ron Loveridge chats with fellow Stanford alum and Housing and Urban Development (HUD) Assistant Secretary John Trasvina in Rio de Janeiro at the United Nations 2010 World Urban Forum held March 22-26. Mayor Loveridge moderated a HUD panel exploring best practices in fair housing and sustainable community development.

Hon. Hajimu Fujii, former Mayor of Sister City Sendai and Director of the Sendai International Relations Association, passed away on April 4, 2010. Mayor Ron Loveridge, seen with Mr. Fujii and a Sendai delegation at the inauguration of the Japanese garden in White Park during the 50th anniversary celebration of the Sister City relationship between Riverside and Sendai in 2007, said: “Riverside has lost a great friend and champion.” Mr. Fujii, Mayor of Sendai from 1993 to 2005, had been suffering from lung cancer.

Mayor Ron Loveridge poses with Rachel Meeker, winner of the 2010 Southern California Sister Cities (SOCAL) Association scholarship. Ms. Meeker is a graduate student in religious studies at the University of California Riverside. She is Program Coordinator and Programming Board Member for Child Leader Project, a Clinton Global Initiative award winning program that teaches leadership skills to children in India. Ms. Meeker was sponsored for the award by the Hyderabad Sister City Committee of the International Relations Council. March 31, 2010.

Mayor Ron Loveridge commemorates the 91st anniversary of the signing of the Korean Declaration of Independence at a ceremony held by the Dosan Ahn Chang Ho monument in Downtown Riverside. The ceremony was organized by the Inland Korean American Association. Patriot Dosan Ahn Chang Ho founded the first permanent Korean settlement in United States in Riverside. March 1, 2010.
