
Mildred TylerMildred Tyler came to Riverside in 1962 and was destined to become a community treasure.
Mrs. Tyler is a Founding Life Member and former president of the Riverside Chapter of the National Council of Negro Women; she has served on the Community Advisory Board of the Riverside Junior League; the Riverside County Fair Housing Council, the African-American Historical Society, the City of Riverside’s Personnel Board, Parks and Recreation Commission, Planning Committee of the Inland Counties Health System Agency, and Mayor’s Commission on Aging both as commissioner and as the chairperson, and she is a volunteer facilitator of the Riverside senior support group called “Writing Your Life Story.”
She currently belongs to the National Afro-American Storytellers Association, the National American Storytellers Association, and, of course, the Riverside Storytellers Guild.
Mrs. Tyler is a member of the Allen Chapel AME Church where she is a member of the Stewardship Board since 1991, also serving as its secretary. She also finds time to sing in the choir, serve on the Budget Committee, and mentor other women through the Sistah’s Club.
