First Sundays 2011/2012
Dates October - May from 1- 4 pm

First Sundays is a free program for families and children held at the Main Library, five downtown museums, and one downtown church on the first Sunday of each month, October through May. All library events take place on the Main Library Plaza from 1-4 pm.

  • Event: Victorian Glass Bracelets and Tours of the Inn
  • Time: 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.
  • Location: Mission Inn Museum
  • Summary:
  • Join us at the Mission Inn Museum in October to make Victorian Glass Bracelets. The Mission Inn was built during the Victorian era and many of the Victorians who stayed at the Inn wore elegant glass beaded jewelry. Come make your own bracelets in this Victorian style. We will also be holding perimeter tours of the Mission Inn every 30 minutes throughout the day!
  • Event: Poetry, Stories, Magic, and More!
  • Time: 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.

  • Summary:
  • Riverside’s wonderfully talented storyteller Karen Rae Kraut will entertain us with her stories about dreams! Jeffrey Tahir will amaze the crowds with his incredible magic tricks and balloon animals. Welcome author and poet Maureen Alsop! At the Poet’s Booth, you may have a poem written for you and you can write your very own! As always, we will have a fun arts and crafts project for all to take part!

  • Time: 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.
  • Location: Riverside Metropolitan Museum
  • Summary:
  • Visit the museum for our annual Native Traditions day. Learn how to weave a basket and find out what types of plants are used from our area for different baskets, medicines, and other uses. Make your own walnut dice and play a variety of games!
  • Event: Passport Around the World
  • Time: 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.
  • Location: Riverside Public Library
  • Summary:
  • Receive your passport and travel to Central America -decorate your own Sugar Skull from 1-2pm. From 2-3pm join us in the library’s auditorium for a performance by Jim Adams Puppeteer/Comedic Ventriloquist. Then continue decorating your Sugar Skulls from 3-4pm.

  • Time: 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.
  • Location: UCR ArtsBlock ( Culver Center, Sweeney Art Gallery, and California Museum of Photography)
  • Summary:
  • Participants of this workshop will be introduced to the photographic process of cyanotype, or sun print. Developed in the 19th century, cyanotypes generate an imprint of an object when it is placed on light-sensitive paper and exposed to sunlight. Using only light, water and a bit of imagination, participants can create amazing prints.
  • Event: Get Dramatic!
  • Time: 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.
  • Location: Riverside Fox Theater Foundation at Fox Theater
  • Summary:
  • All the World’s a Stage! Transform yourself at the Fox with costumes, stage makeup and masks to disguise. Become your favorite character from a play or book, or use your imagination and create a role. Celebrate the return of the Fox “Walk of Fame” by getting your family’s name on a “Hollywood” star. See you at the Fox!
