Join us on a Literary Journey…

The Riverside Public Library and Heyday Books of Berkeley have been working together to create the Inlandia Institute, a vibrant and joyous center of literary activity. An outgrowth of Heyday Books’ highly acclaimed anthology, Inlandia: a Literary Journey Through California’s Inland Empire, the Inlandia Institute will nurture the rich and ongoing literary traditions of inland southern California. We envision an inclusive and collaborative enterprise that promotes writers with a regional voice and that stimulates a greater awareness of the area’s diverse literary, artistic, and cultural heritage. We believe there is enough talent and passion in the area to create a literary renaissance of thrilling proportions; we see the Inlandia Institute serving as catalyst to that renaissance.

Projects under consideration include:
• Publishing high quality regional material under a special Inlandia imprint
• Creating the post of “poet laureate” for the City of Riverside
• Supporting readings and conferences throughout the Inland Empire
• Managing oral history projects to preserve the history of the Inland Empire
• Holding writers workshops for emerging authors
• Creating a love of literature in children
• Mentoring younger writers and cultural activists

We welcome your support and active participation.
