The volunteer will assist in indexing, updating and maintaining material in vertical files — especially newspapers, photographs and postcards.
Volunteers should be willing to work a minimum of 6 hours per month (2 days of 3 hours each).
To apply, contact the Volunteer Coordinator, (951) 826-5208, or the Local History Librarian, (951) 826-5119.
Homework Helpers and Literacy Tutors
Homework helpers are needed to help children during after-hours. We also need literacy tutors to help adults with basic reading and writing skills. Volunteers need to be 18 years old or older. Please call or visit the Eastside or Casa Blanca branch libraries.
Craft Assistant for Family Fun Day on First Sundays
Do you love kids and crafts? On the first Sunday of the month from October to May, the Library joins the downtown museums to host Family Fun Day, an event that provides free activities for children and families. The Library’s program features a professional storyteller and a related craft, and 150-250 kids and parents usually attend. Adult and teen (above age 14) volunteers are needed to help at the craft tables from 12:30 to 4:30 pm.
Remaining 2007-2008 season dates are December 2, 2007; January 6, February 2 and 3 (Dickens Festival), March 2, April 6, and May 4, 2008.
Home Bound Delivery Book Selectors and Drivers
The Riverside Public Library is currently looking for volunteer book selectors and drivers for the Home Delivery Service program.
This program is designed to fulfill the needs of individuals who are unable to visit the library due to advanced age, disabling illness, or physical disability. Responsibilities include selecting and checking out materials for home borrowers, and delivering and returning those library materials in a timely manner. The time commitment is only two hours per month.
