The Riverside Public Library announces Food for Fines during January 2008
If you owe overdue fines at the Riverside Public Library, Buzz Bee, the Library’s mascot encourages you to clear them and help your community — all at the same time!
During Food for Fines month, January 2-31, 2008, library customers can reduce late fees owed on library materials up to $25. Just make donations of nonperishable food for Second Harvest Food Bank at the circulation desk of any Riverside Public Library branch.
According to Library Director Barbara Custen, “the goal of Food for Fines is to retrieve as many library materials as possible. Through this program we can do that, help our community, and help library customers become active borrowers in good standing again.”
Give food donations to staff at the Circulation Desk of the nearest branch library. Library staff will confirm that the value of $1.00 per accepted food item is credited towards your account. Food donations will be accepted only for late fines, not for lost and/or damaged materials. All Food for Fines participants will also receive a Riverside Public Utilities Green Bag to make returning books easier in the future.
The food items collected will be donated to the Second Harvest Food Bank. The Food Bank can accept only nonperishable items. All food must be labeled, within its expiration date, and packaged for sale. Food in glass containers, alcoholic or other beverages, candy,
or U.S. Government food products will not be accepted.
