Long-term disability insurance is available for full time employees not covered by SDI.
- Non-safety Management employees, including Utilities Management who are eligible for deferred compensation, may enroll in Standard Insurance for long term disability coverage.
Benefits are available 90 days after the onset of the illness or injury. This pays 60% of the employee's salary with a maximum benefit of $7000/month.
Premiums are based on the employee's salary.
Premiums are $.48/$1000 of salary with max of $51.33 per month.
The premium is paid for out of the City's $250/month contribution to the employee's deferred compensation account.
- Sworn Fire, Police, and related management may opt for LTD coverage through their associations.
- Non-management Utilities employees have LTD coverage through Standard Insurance.
Participants receive 66 2/3% of salary 60 days after the onset of the illness or injury.
Enrollment
- Non-safety Management employees may opt for LTD coverage under Standard Insurance.
Enrollment is within the first 30 days of appointment or promotion to a Management position, or during the annual open enrollment period. If you choose to enroll during open enrollment at this time you will be subject to a 6/24 months pre-existing conditions provision.
- For Sworn Fire, Police and related management enrollment questions should be directed to the appropriate association.
- Non-management Utilities employees are automatically enrolled in Long Term Disability. Participants receive 66 2/3 % of salary.
Changes
- Non-safety Management employees may change their LTD plan during Open Enrollment.
- Sworn Fire, Police, and related management should contact their associations to make changes.
- No changes can be made to Non-management Utilities employees Long Term Disability.
