National Preparedness Month, held each September, is sponsored by the Ready Campaign and Citizen Corps. National Preparedness Month is designed to encourage Americans to take simple steps to prepare for emergencies in their homes, businesses and communities.
September 2009 is the sixth annual National Preparedness Month. This year will focus on changing perceptions about emergency preparedness and helping Americans understand what it truly means to be Ready. Despite great strides made by the public to get prepared for disasters, we still have work to do.
Nationally, 42% of us have an emergency kit, 29% have made a plan, 21% have set a family meeting place, and 15% have volunteered to help in community preparedness.
September is as good as time as ever to: Get a Kit, Make a Plan, Be Informed, Get Involved
