:: Riverside EDvantage - A Citywide Internship Program

InternshipsWith more than 47,000 college and university students enrolled throughout the four higher education institutions within the City, Riverside truly enjoys an educational advantage. In order to attract, engage, and retain the knowledge capital produced in Riverside, the Higher Education Business Council (HEBC), a partnership chaired by Mayor Ronald O. Loveridge, initiated Riverside EDvantage.

Riverside EDvantage is a citywide internship program that connects local businesses and non-profit organizations with local collegiate talent.

Vision

  • To cultivate and capture the intellectual capital in the City of Riverside.
  • To nurture and guide local private, public, and nonprofit business sectors in obtaining skilled interns and designing quality internship programs that fit their organizational goals, while providing valuable learning and training experience to students.

By connecting local employers with motivated college and university students, EDvantage plays a valuable role in ensuring that Riverside’s workforce has the highly-skilled professionals necessary to meet the future needs of an increasingly knowledge-based economy.

What is the role of the Citywide Internship Coordinator?

The role of the Citywide Internship Coordinator is to serve as a liaison between City of Riverside businesses and the four higher education institutions in order to facilitate communication, marketing, and student participation in internships.

How does Riverside EDvantage work?

  1. An intern is needed by a local business.
  2. A job description is submitted to the Coordinator.
  3. The Coordinator forwards the request through the appropriate channels set forth at each of the campuses.
  4. Interested students submit their resume to the Coordinator.
  5. The Coordinator reviews the resumes submitted, determining the best fit for the business.
  6. Resumes of selected students are forwarded to the business.
  7. The business representative holds interviews and selects an intern.
  8. The business representative informs the Coordinator of their decision.
