The UC Riverside School of Business Administration Dean’s Speaker Series brings successful leaders in the business community to campus to discuss current business issues and share their experiences with UCR students. Guest speakers represent a variety of industries, and have ranged from leaders in the Inland Southern California business community to UCR business school alumni who have found success outside of the region. Through luncheons that accompany the lectures, students have the opportunity to interact in person with speakers.

According to Yunzeng Wang, Interim Dean, “We started the Dean’s Speaker Series several years ago because we know how invaluable it is for our students to have the opportunity to not just read about success in textbooks, but to also see success firsthand by meeting accomplished business leaders.”

The 2012 kick-off was held on October 17th.  A standing-room-only crowed of about 120 attendees learned from local entrepreneur, Drew Jorgenson of OmniPlatform, about building a business on a shoestring.  Drew talked about his own personal success story and received rave reviews from attendees.

“The best thing about the Dean’s Speaker Series is that it brings us into contact with real business leaders who have actually done the things we study,” explained Kevin Straight, MBA candidate 2014, “Drew started with $500 and basically built a major technology company out of nothing.  It is one thing to spend time in class talking about business in the abstract.  But here is a guy, only slightly older than most of us, who created a real-world corporation and is willing to share his insights and experiences with us.  It makes it all real in a way that class work alone never could.”

The next Dean’s Speaker Series seminar is scheduled for November 9, 2012 and will feature Riverside developers and philanthropists, Mark and Pam Rubin of Regional Properties, Inc.
