The City of Riverside’s Building and Safety Division of Community Development has been recognized by California Building Officials (CALBO) as California Building Department of the Year 2012. Riverside received this honor once before in 2004, and is the only city to have received this award from CALBO twice. City of Riverside Building Official, Dan Chudy, accepted the award at CALBO conference the week of February 18th.
The award recognizes the Building & Safety Division’s implementation of practices and programs that preserve the integrity of staffing effectiveness, increase staff knowledge, and capitalize on existing budget resources while continually enhancing the excellent standard of customer service we provide. The award-winning programs include an In-house Building Code Training Academy, a Streamlined Permitting Process for Electric Vehicle Chargers, self-certification by City-approved contractors for criteria eligible re-reroofing projects, and an E-mail Inspection Program that utilizes photographs for water heater replacement permits.
Community Development Director Al Zelinka expressed his gratitude for the award and pride in his staff stating, “It is my pleasure to congratulate my colleague, Dr. Dan Chudy, and his outstanding team for this recognition, and to express my appreciation for their dedicated, quality work.”
