Recharge Your Business In 2014

As we begin the new year in 2014 now is the time to take a fresh look at your business plan, build new relationships to expand your network and set goals for the year.

Below are some suggestions to help you get a jump start on the year:


1. Measure how your business stacks up against the competition.

The Office of Economic Development has a business intelligence tool available on our website called SizeUp which allows you to benchmark your business against others in your industry, map your customers, competitors and suppliers and locate the best places to advertise.

2. Find new opportunities for partnerships.

Partnerships with other businesses can help you build your customer base while relationships with local suppliers can potentially help to reduce costs which in turn builds a stronger local supply chain. The SizeUp tool can help you map your suppliers and the Office of Economic Development is ready to assist you in finding business to business opportunities as well as connections to our partners. We have relationships with a wide range of entities including: local businesses, chambers of commerce, Riverside County Workforce Investment Board, Riverside Public Utilities, local universities, Riverside City College, Small Business Development Centers, Incubators, Venture Capitalists and Angel Investors and many more.

3. Become a vendor to the City of Riverside.

The City processes nearly $75 million ($25 million in goods and services and $50 million in Public Works projects) in orders and contracts annually. Services utilized include but are not limited to janitorial services, security services, landscape maintenance, printing, temporary staff services, air travel services and courier services. Public projects include street repairs, special studies and construction of buildings, engineering, geo-technical and environmental services.

4.  Have you ever though of exporting?

In 2012, the total value of exports from the Riverside-San Bernardino-Ontario MSA stood at $13.13 billion or 9.2% of all output. This ranked the region 27th of 100 metro areas on the total value of its exports and 76th on exports intensity. Demand for US products continues to be high throughout the world and the Riverside County Office of Foreign Trade (OFT) is available to help business owners, corporate officers, investors, and entrepreneurs with export and import assistance with the objective of creating new jobs and investment in Riverside. For more information, contact the Office of Foreign Trade at

5. Set action-oriented goals for the year.

Develop three goals that you aim to accomplish by the end of the year and tie them to specific actions you will take to ensure you are successful.
