“When was the last time you made a BIG difference in a 24-hour period? On November 12th, you will have that opportunity!”
That is the premise behind Give Big Riverside, planned this year for 11.12.13 – November 12, 2013. Now in its second year, Give BIG Riverside is a 24-hour online giving event engaging residents and donors for the benefit of 112 regional nonprofits.
The Community Foundation, leading a task force of nonprofit and community leaders, is organizing the second annual Riverside Online Giving Day, called Give BIG Riverside, as an opportunity for residents and businesses to support and give BIG collectively to their favorite nonprofit, online, on 11.12.13.
All nonprofits participating have provided services to the greater Riverside area for three years or more. Most have taken advantage of the free social media and marketing training provided by the Give BIG taskforce to help strengthen their skills to connect with their donors and supporters.
Give BIG Riverside donors and participants can make contributions from $10 and up through the website at www.giveBIGriverside.org. There, donors can find their favorite nonprofit or search by areas of interest, such as animals, children or safety net services to discover a new organization. A donation can be made using a debit or credit card on a secure, reputable, and safe site.
Last year, nearly 40% of Give BIG donors made donations to more than one nonprofit. In addition, 40% of the overall donations made came from a new donor to the organization. These statistics may indicate the discovery new causes to support on Give BIG Riverside.
“Residents and even donors from other states stepped up and made a difference last year. Over 2,700 donations were made during Give BIG Riverside last year,” recalls Sharilyn Hunke, Communications Officer at The Community Foundation. “We know that our community is generous and this year our residents will give even more, and maybe even find a new cause to support.”
The concept of gamification makes the event fun for the participating nonprofits. There is prize money, up to $5,000, for the five organizations that top the leaderboard for the most individual donors.
Golden Tickets, which provide nonprofits an additional $250 if one of their donations is selected during random drawing, will be given throughout the day. Sponsorships for the Golden Tickets are still being accepted.
Give BIG Riverside will be held from 12:01 am until midnight on Tuesday, November 12, 2013 at www.giveBIGriverside.org. Search on social media through #whatthegiveis
