Inland Premium Packers, Inc. was established in Riverside by Mel Fierro in 2004 and is primarily a tomato packing facility with many high volume customers.
Mr. Fierro began his career in the produce industry at just 9 years old picking oranges in Redlands, Riverside and Corona groves. He began distributing fruit as a teenager, building relationships and earning the trust of farmers he had picked for over the years.
Inland Premium Packers, Inc. employs 50 workers at the packing facility in Riverside and the company has two transfer facilities in Nogales, Mexico and San Diego as well as a distribution center in Stockton. Mr. Fierro is planning a major expansion into Arizona in the near future as business continues to grow.
The company’s main product is tomatoes of several varieties including Grape, Cherry and Roma tomatoes. They also pack onions and other produce at the Riverside facility. The packers ensure the most desirable product is provided to consumers by packing the fruit according to similar size and color and ensuring equal degrees of quality and ripeness.
Inland Premium’s major customers include In-n-Out, Fat Burger, Bakers, Stater Brothers and Smart & Final.
Mr. Fierro’s entrepreneurial spirit continues to thrive. He established Fierro Foods with his son, Ronaldo Fierro who opened The Salted Pig, a thriving new american gastropub located in downtown Riverside. Another establishment opened under Fierro Foods is the new Augie’s Coffee Roasters, a coffee shop originally from Redlands that expanded to open a new location next door to The Salted Pig. Ronaldo’s latest venture is W. Wolfskill, a craft cocktail bar currently under construction and scheduled to open in early 2014. The Fierro family has a long history in Riverside and continues to make significant contributions to our local economy both through Inland Premium Packers, Inc. and Fierro Foods.
