Monday, December 16th, 2013

Angel Wings Bakery is an online gourmet bakery and social enterprise committed to helping break the cycle of poverty and end homelessness.

The bakery offers a variety of gourmet treats that can be ordered online and sent directly to your home or office. Jeanne Nelson, their pastry chef, trained at Le Cordon Bleu and interned under famous cake artist Collette Peters. A few of the goods they offer include seasonal cookies, gourmet cakes, cookie truffles, lemon tarts, and their signature Angel Wings shortbread cookie.

This social enterprise was birthed from Path of Life Ministries, a premier nonprofit that has provided homeless services in Riverside for over 10 years. Their goal is to rescue, restore, and rebuild the lives of those in crisis by offering a holistic system of care.

Much more than a bakery, Angel Wings was created with two goals: 1) Provide a sustainable income source for homeless services, and 2) offer transitional employment opportunities to eligible Path of Life guests.

First, 100% of their profits go directly toward sustaining Path of Life’s homeless services, helping individuals and families in crisis rebuild their lives. “This balanced revenue strategy will provide an earned income revenue stream and reduce our reliance on government funding,” CEO Tracy Fitzsimmons said.

Second, Angel Wings Bakery’s transitional employment program pairs Path of Life’s most committed guests with a dedicated employment coach and pastry chef. Together, they follow a fixed curriculum to acquire an employable skill, gain experience, and learn how to keep and succeed at a job. Each participant will be evaluated at every stage—intern, paid apprentice, permanent employee—and utilize their unique support structure to succeed.

Currently an online-only bakery, you can order their tasty treats at www.angelwingsbakery.com. One of their most popular items is the Confection Club, a weekly or monthly assortment of baked goods delivered to your home or business. This is an easy and fun way to share with family, spice up a staff meeting, promote client appreciation, or simply celebrate a Tuesday.
