Shaping Our Future

During this time of economic change and uncertainty, the City of Riverside recognizes the importance of our role in guiding the community toward stabilization and recovery. It is the job of the Development Department to take part in developing and implementing responsible strategies that help our local business community weather the tough times and build a strong economic foundation for long-term prosperity and quality of life in Riverside.

In tune with our City’s current economic priorities, the Development Department strategy focuses on business retention, intelligent self-investment and neighborhood stabilization. We pride ourselves on fostering and maintaining strong relationships within our local community, providing customized business outreach and ombudsman services to meet the needs of our local businesses and encouraging entrepreneurial investment.

Through our Redevelopment Agency, we coordinate and support projects that are part of the City’s Riverside Renaissance a $1.68 billion public improvement program with over 200 projects ranging from public safety and infrastructure upgrades to arts and culture enhancements. The City’s commitment to the Renaissance Program reflects a long-term approach to inspiring private investment and increasing the quality of life for all citizens.

In addition, department staff is responsible for implementing and monitoring initiatives such as our Targets of Opportunity and Neighborhood Stabilization Programs which are designed to address the issue of rising home foreclosures in Riverside.

The Development Department takes a pro-active approach to shaping our City’s future. Our goal is to meet the current challenges head-on and prepare for good times to come—to ensure that Riverside remains a city of diverse economic and cultural opportunity.
