Tire Recycling
California is faced with the significant challenge of diverting or safely managing more than 31 million reusable and waste tires generated each year. In addition, another 3 million tires are imported annually from out of state.
California has millions of waste tires that have been illegally dumped or stockpiled. These stockpiles pose a potential threat to public health, safety, and the environment.
To encourage proper tire disposal, the City of Riverside hosts periodic CURE Bulky Item events where city residents may drop off tires.
The city uses rubberized asphalt made from recycled tires (crumb rubber) and when possible seeks grants to fund these projects. This is good for our environment and saves city dollars!
