Plans & Aerial Photos of your Property

How can I get copies of the City's copy of plans for my building?

Aerial PhotoThe City of Riverside currently retains copies of all plans that are approved for construction. This was not always the case and many plans for building constructed prior to 1990 were not retained. As a project is completed, the approved plans are microfilmed in order to facilitate their long-term storage.

State law stipulates that plans become copyrighted documents when an architect or engineer has placed their professional seal upon them. As such, they may not be duplicated without the written authorization of the architect or engineer who prepared them. The law also requires the owner authorize the duplication of the plans.

If you would like to determine if the City has copies of a particular building, please visit us at City Hall and request to view the microfilm. If we have copies you will be provided a microfilm viewer to look through the documents. If you wish to have copies of the plans, then you will need to complete the Authorization Form to Duplicate Approved Plans and return it to us after you have acquired all of the required signatures from the design professional and owner of the building.

Upon completing and returning the forms to us, you will contact the City Authorized Microfilm Reproduction Vendor and have them pick-up the microfilm from City Hall. You will conduct business directly with that vendor as far as the cost of the duplication of the plans from microfilm. The vendor will return the microfilm to City Hall after they have completed their duplication process.

How can I get an aerial photo or plot plan of my property?

The City of Riverside has an extensive aerial database. Copies of aerial photos as well as plot plans generated from these photos are available from the Public Works Department for a nominal fee. If you are having difficulty drawing a plot plan for your project, you may want to obtain one of these aerial generated plot plans and save yourself some drafting time.
