Airport Runway/Apron Rehabilitation Project - UPDATED 11/1/17

The first phase of the Runway/Apron project was completed on Monday, October 23.  The second phase, application of a second coat of paint with reflective glass beads will take place Monday, November 27 through Wednesday, November 28.  All work will be completed between the hours of midnight and 7 a.m. however all pilots should check NOTAMS to ensure access will not be impacted.  For current NOTAMS associated with the Apron Rehab Project visit https://pilotweb.nas.faa.gov/PilotWeb/ and search RAL.

Hangar Inspections

Due to the demand for aircraft hangars and inconsistent use of hangars in airports across the country, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) developed a Hangar inspection policy.  FAA rules and regulations limit use of airport property for aeronautical use only.  Over the years a lack of regulations resulted in the large storage space a hangar provides being used for purposes other than housing aeronautical equipment.  FAA policy requires airports that receive federal grants to ensure hangars are used for their primary function: storage of aircraft.

Riverside Municipal Airport (KRAL) receives FAA grant monies to complete large onsite improvements such as the 2017 Airport Apron project.  On August 1, 2017, KRAL accepted federal funds in the amount of $830,000 for the apron/runway project.  Projected assistance through 2022 will result in an estimated $3.5 million in federal and state grant assistance.  To ensure grant funding is not compromised, KRAL must comply with  Federal regulations including that of Hangar Compliance.

There are 170 hangars on airport property.  To ensure ample inspection time, an incremental inspection schedule has been developed to ensure all inspections are completed by mid-April 2018.  Airport staff will inspect all onsite hangars with the exception of hangars located at the Port-A-Port.  The Port-A-Port landlord will be responsible for inspecting and insuring compliance of all Port-A-Port hangars by April 15, 2018.

As identified in the master lease, the Port-A-Port hangars are required to be painted.  Port-A-Port tenants have been contacted by their landlord and given information about the costs associated with using the landlord's preferred vendor.  Tenants are welcome to use their own contractor, however all contractors must be vetted by the Airport Administration Office and have the following items on file and approved by the City's Risk Management office prior to start of work (Insurance binder listing the City of Riverside as additionally insured, City of Riverside Business License, Auto Liability Insurance with Endorsement page and Workmans Compensation Insurance binder listing the City of Riverside as additionally insured).  For more details please contact the Airport Customer Service Representative Mike Dean mdean@riversideca.gov or 951-351-6176.

All hangars and hangar trim colors will be uniform.  Vista paint codes: VP7-26964 (Hangar) and VP7-26962 (Hangar trim).
